How we got there!
Cruise ships are an excellent way to see the Caribbean. We took a cruise ship out of Miami to Sint. Maarten, Coco Cay Bahamas, and the U.S Virgin Islands. We were lucky and won this vacation in a contest, but credit cards can not only be used for planes and hotels, but also for cruise ships!
The Island specifically was St. Thomas.
What we did!
We ended up doing a snorkeling and private beach excursion (I hate that word). We walked to the pickup and were quickly hauled away to a small island cove for snorkeling. Excursions are always hit or miss but this one ended up being kind of cool as we got to snorkel over an old shipwreck.
After snorkeling, we were taken to a private beach where we got to spend time relaxing and swimming. It was a good decision and the sand and water couldn’t have been better.
Afterward, we took a quick shower and went out to explore. Taxis are abundant on the island, especially around the cruise terminal. The taxi stands outside the terminal have signs and directions making it super easy. We took one of them and went to see the island and take in all the sights.
We met a guy in one of the taxis and he suggested the Skyride to Paradise Point. So we followed suit and gave it a shot. We probably wouldn’t recommend it due to the price, but the view was pretty amazing!
We wandered the streets, enjoyed the sun and had a great time in paradise.
Where we stayed!
On the boat 🙂
Where we ate!
We didn’t eat anything on any of the islands. It’s hard for us to spend money on food when we had an unlimited amount of food on the boat that we’ve already paid for.
Gluten-free in the U.S Virgin Islands.
Gluten-free food can be found anywhere. Caribbean islands have a pretty heavy Spanish presence so there are always meals and menu items available.
Cruise ships are also great with gluten-free so if you have allergies or intolerances, don’t ever think you can’t travel and sail!
What we learned!
All cruise ports are the same. If you can get away from the tourist traps the world will open up. During the day, the main cities can be pretty busy but there’s plenty to see and do if you just take a taxi to the outskirts.
The Island is the only place in the U.S where you drive on the left side of the road. If you’ve never experienced it before, it’s quite strange.
The U.S Virgin Islands were a pirate hotspot! They’ve even got a tower dedicated to Blackbeard and the whole island is full of history.
Because it’s part of the U.S, you don’t need a passport making it an excellent destination!
St. Thomas is a beautiful island and it’s well worth the adventure. Whether on a cruise or a flight, it’s a great Caribbean island!
