Our Travel Equipment

The proper travel equipment can make a world of difference! We’re not rich or experienced, but we’ve already seen the importance of getting the right tools and we’re continuing to improve our travel Equipment.

I anticipate there will be lots of updates and changes to this post over the years, but for now, we hope you find use from our items. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Luggage

One trip to Europe with carryons and we’ve vowed to never do it again. They’re rough, clanky, and too out of place.

Our go-to has been the Tortuga Setout Divide. For whatever reason Tortuga has actually stopped producing anything other than their Outbreaker series. They make great backpacks and we love ours. We’ve taken them all over and they hold up super well in any condition! They are pricey, but if you travel often they’re well worth it.

If you’re looking for other options, plenty are out there. We just recommend getting a bag that opens like a suitcase but carries like a backpack. it makes getting in and out so much easier.

With the backpacks, we’ve also purchased Tortuga’s packing cubes. They make it super easy to store and organize everything we take with us.

An additional item we’ve added is a Crossbody Sling Backpack. They make you look a bit like a tourist but they’re great for storing small items, all while avoiding the bulk of a backpack.

We’ve also added the Osprey Ultralight Stuff-Pack. They’re incredible and worth every dollar.

Electronics

There’s a ton of flexibility with these, but here are some things we use and like.

Portable Charger Power Bank. These are a must if you’re really doing anything out in the world. There are so many to choose from but we’ve really liked this one and it holds a lot of juice.

A good power strip is also a must. Hotels, Airbnbs, and airports throughout the world can have limited outlets and charging capabilities. We had a cheap outlet on our first journey overseas and we blew it up in an Italian hotel room. We later plugged it in at the airport and it started smoking. Do yourself a favor and get a good one.

A travel adapter/converter is required anywhere outside of your home country. Before going anywhere it’s important to do a little research about volts and currents and conversions and adaptions. We have a small travel adapter and a travel adapter/converter. We bought them years ago and don’t have a record of the actual ones we bought. There are tons of options out there so search Amazon and find one that fits your style. They don’t have to be expensive either.

FYI – Converters are for electronics that can’t handle the difference in voltage. Adapters are just to change the prongs since ours don’t fit. This being the case, if you’re only taking phone products or electronics that can be charged with a USB port, it may be worth just getting some wall plugs for the country you’re going to. These would work great since phones are typically dual-voltage. (check your electronics for dual voltage.)

Nothing makes a fight better than noise-canceling headphones. If you hate traveling because of the flights, then these will change everything for you. It’s a whole new experience to be able to have peace and quiet in the air.

Clothing

We both have different jackets but they’ve been great. Laynie has the Uniqlo Ultra Light Down Jacket and Parker uses the Outdoor Ventures Puffy Jacket. Both are super light, super easy to pack, super comfy, and highly recommended. They’re really affordable and were great on our trip to Finland in February. They worked great with layers and for the type of exposure we endured.
